ABOUT THE DESKTOP

Hi, and welcome to The Australian Journalist Desktop. This site is definitely not commercial in any way - it is purely the creation of a young Melbourne journalist who wanted to better utilise the Internet for research purposes.

The aim of this site is to make research on the Net as efficient as possible by organising other sites by news rounds and making the best research tools easy accessible. Although there's plenty of other sites which offer excellent resources to journalists, only a handful are designed specifically for the Australian journalist. This is where the Desktop aims to be a little different. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments about this site.

A little about the author of this site ...

Daniel Moloney is a 24 year old journalist working with Melbourne Independent Newspapers (MIN), publishers of The Melbourne Times, The Southern Cross, The Emerald Hill Times and City Weekly. The newspapers are delivered free to around 280,000 homes in Melbourne's (Victoria, Australia) inner, inner northern, southern and bayside suburbs each Wednesday.

MIN is owned by APN News & Media (unfortunately our newspapers are not on the Net yet).
Educated at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, 1996), I also worked as a journalist / media relations officer for the Victorian Office of Fair Trading and Business Affairs for almost two years (which might explain my strong dedication to consumer rights).

I have been working at MIN for almost two years and work mainly on The Melbourne Times, but write for all of our newspapers. My rounds include: consumer affairs, roads, public transport and Melbourne City Council (in Melbourne's inner north).
